Renovate Your Bedroom Ready For The London 2012 Olympics

The countdown to the London Olympics has begun, but did you know that you can now get into the spirit in your bedroom?

It’s been hard getting back into the swing of things this year too much food and drink over Christmas has left me feeling less fit than I was before the break. I like so many others in the country will be feeling inspired to remove some of those excess pounds, but the last place I’d have thought of doing that was in the bedroom – until now!

Award winning beds, mattresses and bedroom furniture are something we sell a lot of here at Border Furniture. So with the London Olympics firmly on the horizon we haven’t forgotten the importance of celebrating it in our tiny corner of North Wales.

We at Border like this latest range of bedding inspired by the Olympics inspired by Team GB's lion head graphic featuring the patriotic colours of red, white and blue. The bed linen is available as quilt sets, including pillowcases, in single bed and double bed sizes.

I think these would look great draped over the beds we have on offer in our Wrexham beds store. Not sure where you buy the bed linen from but expect it to be in the high street shops soon, if not already!

How Deep Is Your Love? Get Your Bedroom Ready for Love this Valentine's

12/01/12 15:07:51 GMT

Romantic wall artValentine’s day comes round once a year, so you can’t underestimate the importance of the bedroom to making this a happy one.

If you’re looking for an extra special Valentine's Day this year a good way to achieve this will be to give your bedroom a makeover. In my last blog I revealed how the 70s are making a comeback in some design circles and how this can transform your bedroom into a place where your significant other can’t get enough of your love as Barry White would say.

The bedroom

If your bedroom looks cluttered and fraying at the edges, this is hardly a recipe for romance, so why not give love a chance and de-clutter? Make sure the bedroom is free of distractions like computers, laptops and other gadgets hanging around to distract you. You can then create some space to make some changes.

Consider a new bed

There is no excuse for not investing in a new bed. On Valentines, a nice new bed could make all the difference. There are all sorts of beds to consider whether it’s a stylish period style metal bed, a rustic wooden bed or a high end bedstead from Willis and Gambier, this will provide the perfect platform and focal point in your bedroom.

The next thing to consider is your wallpaper

Will it be bold and bright? Soft and subtle? This will really depend on your personality of course. As we have said before in this blog the 70s are making a comeback, but you will need to choose your paper carefully. Choose something too garish and this could be a real passion killer and detract from any wall art you may be hoping to introduce later. Better to go for something more subtle.

Wall art

Wall art and romance go hand in hand, think off all those risqué canvases created with romance in mind and you’ll know what I mean. There are however some interesting modern twists on the idea including "LOVE" luminous wall art by a company called Kandabi.

The Scottish company offers exclusive illuminated artwork, which doubles as wall art and flattering ambiance illumination. Using a simple but clever shadow projection technique, the statement wall light acts as a magnifying glass, projecting the four letter word onto the wall.

Designed to capture the eye, tease the brain and put a big smile on your face, there is no more original way to express your love this Valentine's Day, or to inject true individuality and character into any interior space.

Then it all comes down to matresses and bedding

This is perhaps one of the easiest ways to give your bedroom a romantic boost. Invest in a good mattress, memory foam, pocket sprung or a combination of both to achieve the firmest softest place to bed down for the night. The choose sheets that feel good against your skin, obviously silk works best and don’t forget to source the plumpest pillows and duvet you can find.

Combine all this and you should enjoy a Valentines day to remember.

1970s Style Bedroom Back in Fashion

09/01/12 09:19:26 GMT

1970s style bedroom chicLittle Greene launch 'Retrospective Papers' featuring wallpaper designs from the not-too-distant past that can bring retro style to the bedroom.

Luxury Wallpaper suppliers Little Green have launched a new or should that be retorspective range of wallpapers, that would bring vibrancy and retor chic style to any bedroom. The latest wallpapers build on the success of the company's paint range, and further embrace the 20th Century design revival.

If you decide to give your bedroom a makeover this year this enigmatic and highly evocative collection of authentic wallpaper designs was first produced in the 1960s and 1970s.The designs are derived from a number of validated historical sources, including the extensive archive at Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery which has arguably the best collection of antique wallpapers in the country.

The ‘Retrospective Papers’ are bold and brave, strong and statemental, yet nonetheless remarkably adaptable for use in the 21st Century interior! The collection will be unveiled at Maison et Objet in Paris at the end of January 2012.

‘Retrospective Papers’ comprises eight designs in a total of 37 colourways: the papers vary in style, finish, print technique and impact according to the scale and colourway – from the Warhol-inspired screen print ‘Fern’ in eye-popping psychedelic shades to the exotic ‘Reverie’, whimsical ‘Hepworth’ and ‘Starflower’, a piece of pure retro from 1967.

Whilst some are faithful reproductions, others have been adapted to suit contemporary usage, but each design nonetheless retains the integrity of the original motif. In so doing, Little Greene has cleverly succeeded in breathing fresh life into patterns that had otherwise lain forgotten and neglected for a generation.

The ‘Retrospective Papers’ colours are individually distinctive, but also blend harmoniously with the Retrospectives paint palette. Encompassing zingy limes, zesty yellows, vibrant oranges, sultry browns, moody charcoals, vivacious blues and hot reds, the colours encapsulate the essence of an era, and reflect the many influences at work in a rapidly changing Britain in the late 20th Century, when the country and its inhabitants were exposed to more external influences than at any time in the past. Increasing affluence, immigration, particularly from the Indian subcontinent and the West Indies, expansion of air travel and the consequent accessibility of holidays to foreign climes all had an impact on the culture and style of these two significant decades.

05/01/12 14:01:27 GMT

Continuing its collaboration with Bedeck, Harlequin has now produced a third range of bed linen and accessories that we think will go perfectly with our stylish range of our high end bedsteads from Willis Gambier.

The collection has been adapted from some of the most popular Harlequin designs. The Bedlinen comes in four sizes of duvet cover to suit  (single beds, double beds, king size beds, super king beds) with pillowcases and complementary decorative cushions to match.

Bali Stripe: specially designed for bedlinen, Bali is a signature Harlequin stripe. The duvet cover features a vibrant multi-coloured horizontal stripe of varying widths, with a two-colour horizontal fine stripe on the reverse. The oxford pillowcase has a vertical multi stripe with purple stitching. They come in a tactile, 200 thread count 100% cotton sateen and are accessorised by a purple 30x50cms 100% silk dupion cushion, featuring a horizontal stripe flange and three large covered buttons in navy, turquoise and lime.

Delphinia: derived from a fabric in the Delphine collection, the duvet cover features a glorious large-scale floral motif, in a vibrant pink, yellow, lime and pale grey combination on a soft-white ground, with a vertical stripe reverse and green flat piping. The oxford pillowcase bears the floral motif of the duvet cover, set in a vertical stripe, with the same striped reverse. This design also has a vertical striped housewife pillowcase. The designs are printed onto soft, 180 thread count 100% cotton percale and are complemented by a lime green cotton decorative 30x50cms cushion, with pink silk flanged ends, embroidered with a French knot floral motif.

Poppy: a bold statement design based on a striking fabric in the Tempo collection. The duvet cover features overblown poppy heads, in appropriately mouth-watering scarlet, accented by green piping and a plain natural reverse. There are two oxford pillowcase options: one mirroring the duvet cover, the other plain white with scarlet stitching. Printed onto 180 thread count cotton percale, the bedlinen is complemented by a luscious 100% silk dupion boudoir cushion, measuring 30x40cms, which has a natural coloured front with all-over embroidered circles, natural reverse and green piping.

Tembok: a flamboyant motif based on a stunning embroidery in the Tembok collection. The duvet cover features a large allover floral, in a delicious combination of bright colours, accented by turquoise piping and a wavy stripe reverse. There are oxford and housewife pillowcases: the former mirroring the duvet cover, with a plain white reverse, the latter bearing the wavy stripe on both sides. Printed onto 180 thread count cotton percale, they are complemented by a striking 100% cotton boudoir cushion, measuring 30x40cms, which has a turquoise front with multi-coloured stitched lines, turquoise reverse and orange bobbles at either end.

All four new designs work effortlessly with the existing silk accessories in the current bedlinen collection, which include glamorous plain silk cushions and throws, in shades of natural, aqua and vibrant pink specially selected to harmonise with the duvet cover designs and colours. In addition a selection of chunky open-knit cotton throws and cushions in turquoise and zest has been added for 2012.

The bed linen will be available throughout the UK from February 2012.
